Barrie Youth Race

Yesterday was the Barrie Youth Race. The first race of the season. After waking up at 6:00am and heading out the door at 7:00am we got into Barrie 2 hours later. We signed in and got my number. I was number 30. After doing a few laps around the 6km course and chatting, it was 10:25. My ITT was about to start. The riders ahead had departed and it was now 10:30. My teammate and buddy Will, had taken off. 30 seconds after it was my turn to head out, for the 5km all out effort.

The effort in which I gave and speed of which I acheived was incredible. The only thing I remeber was starting and the final few kilometres, that where hills.

As I approched the hills I passed a rider who started 1'30" ahead of me, and I was close to catching up with another until we ran out of space and she crossed the line.

As I ride to cool-down my Dad was finding out the result from the Chip software. As I await in the van drinking some powerade, he comes and tells me that I came 2nd out of the whole group and Will had came first! The only HCC riders finishing on the podium for the TT!

The Verdict is In!

After months of fretting over my knee and wondering what it is and what to do about it. I finally found out what it was, thanks to my Family Doctor. The cause of the knee pain is Patello-Femoral Pain. Let me sum up what this is.

Patello (knee cap)-Femoral (femur) pain is when the knee caps alignment is pointed inwards (this is natural for some people, I just happen to fall under that category), rubbing against this tendon (I have no clue what it is) and the bone. Here is a crude drawing of what I mean...

So basically what this picture depicts is that the femur is a bone that
is concave, which allows the knee cap to move freely around. The
normal knee cap would be directly in the middle of the femur,
where as mine, mine shifts to the inside of my legs pressing,
against the tendon, giving me the knee pain.

Wind, Rain and Hail Oh My!

As I was waking home from school, I decided to head out for a ride on the bike. By this time it was gently spitting out, like a cool mist on a hot humid day (believe it or not it was 24'C out!). It was very pleasant and cooling more so that wet. I couldn't wait to head out. I got home and got ready to head out. By that time the wind had picked up, I'm not a fan of wind, however I paced myself. Then the "real" rain picked up. SIDEWAYS!!
